Sunita Jamgade, a woman from Nagpur who went missing over 10 days, has been handed over the Indian authorities. The 43-year-old woman was reported missing on May 14, as the police revealed that she crossed over into Pakistan through the Line of Control (LoC). According to the missing complaint her brother, Sunil, filed at a Nagpur police station, she was last seen in the remote village of Hunderman in Kargil.

Just days ago, Ladakh Director General of Police (DGP) S D Singh Jamwal told The Indian Express that she was in touch with Pakistani nationals before she went missing. Amid espionage suspicions, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone V) Niketan Kadam said, “A team compromising one officer and two women constables had been sent to Amritsar to bring Sunita back.”

The officer further revealed that Pakistani officials captured the Nagpur woman after crossed the border. They have since handed her over to India’s Border Security Force (BSF), who, in turn, has handed over Sunita, who is a former nurse and a door-to-door garment seller, to Amritsar Police.

To dig into the truth behind claims of her colluding with Pakistan, the deputy commissioner revealed that she would be interrogated as soon as she in Nagpur custody.

Nagpur woman Sunita Jamgade’s alleged Pakistani links yet to be verified

“We need to verify whether she was involved in spying or any other unlawful activity,” he added. “Exchange of individuals who inadvertently cross the India-Pakistan border is a routine procedure. Such cases are typically resolved through flag meetings and communication between the BSF and Pakistan Rangers.”

In a statement to IE.com, Ladakh’s DGP Jamwal had previously said that at the time her being in contact with “certain Pakistani numbers” was a matter of conjecture. “She had previously attempted to cross the border from the Attari-Wagah side, so it is a possibility that she succeeded this time,” he said last week.

Sunita Jamgade was with her 12-year-old son before her disappearance. As she abandoned him behind in Hunderman village before crossing over into Pakistan, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) took him into its care. With the former nurse coming back, her son is expected to brough back to Nagpur soon as well.

The Nagpur woman’s case continues is making headlines hot on the heels of YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra being arrested on suspicion of spying for Pakistani agents.
