A new government has been formed in Bihar, and Nitish Kumar has taken oath as the state’s Chief Minister for the 10th time. The NDA won the Bihar elections with a big majority, while the Mahagathbandhan had to face a major defeat. But what caught the eye this election was the fact that there are five Muslim candidates who won the election from constituencies where Hindus form the majority. Here is a look at those five seats.
Chainpur Assembly Seat
From Chainpur, JDU’s Mohammad Jama Khan won the election by defeating RJD’s Briz Kishore Bind. Chainpur has only about 10% Muslim population, making it a Hindu-majority seat, a report by Jansatta said.
Dhaka Assembly Seat
The report added that in Dhaka, RJD’s Faisal Rahman won by a narrow margin of 178 votes against BJP’s Pawan Kumar Jaiswal. Dhaka is also Hindu-majority, but the 32% Muslim population often plays a key role. In 2020, the BJP had won this seat.
Bisfi Assembly Seat
In Bisfi, RJD’s Asif Ahmed defeated BJP’s Haribhushan Thakur. Haribhushan had won the seat in 2020. Bisfi is mostly Hindu, although Muslims make up around 40% of the population.
Raghunathpur Assembly Seat
Raghunathpur is known as an RJD stronghold. Osama Sahib, the son of Mohammad Shahabuddin, won here. The seat has only 17% Muslim population but is still seen as part of Shahabuddin’s influence.
Araria Assembly Seat
Araria is considered a Congress stronghold. Abd ur Rahman has been winning this seat since 2015. The constituency is Hindu-majority with around 32% Muslims. This time, Rahman won by more than 12,000 votes.
