Mumbai rain update: After 48 hours of torrential rain in Mumbai, the waterlogged roads have brought the city to its knees. On the third day 72 hours later, the rain gods showed mercy after a prolonged red alert warning from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). While Pune was on red alert, several regions of Mumbai received mild showers under an orange alert. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was forced to shut down educational institutions and government offices on August 18 and 19 as the city headed towards normal on August 20.

As per the latest forecast, the IMD has issued a red alert in Maharashtra for Pune and eased the warnings in Thane, and Raigad. For now, there is a yellow alert in Mumbai, with moderate spells of rain predicted in Nashik and Satara.
