Mumbai’s air quality worsened drastically on Wednesday, with real-time monitoring showing the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) firmly in the “severe” category. As per latest data overall AQI stood around 219, far beyond the safe thresholds for healthy air.
Parts of the city woke up under a thick blanket of smog and haze, lowering visibility and resulting in discomfort among residents. According to live AQI data, Mumbai’s overall reading hovered around 219, whereas PM 2.5 and PM10 concentrations reached hazardous levels.
A dense haze covered large parts of the city early in the morning, significantly reducing visibility. Many of the neighbourhoods recorded “severe” or near-severe readings between 240-260, with some places showing even higher ranges. Some of the worst-affected areas includedMazgaon-AQI 252, Navya Nagar, Colaba-AQI 216, Borivali East- AQI 219, Chakala (Andheri East0-AQI 255, Malad West- AQI 210 and Powai-AQI 221.

Meanwhile, other areas reported severe air readings in Chembur, Bandra Kurla Complex, Wadala Truck Terminal, Worli, Juhu, Bandra Kurla Complex and Santacruz East, where pollution shot past the “very poor” range.
Authorities have advised residents to avoid outdoor exercise, to keep windows closed, to use anti-pollution masks and to use air purifiers.
As per a report by NDTV, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is evaluating the possibility of implementing GRAP-4- emergency measures if pollution level continues to be high. Officials may consider restrictions on construction activity, industrial emissions if AQI stays above 200 in several zones through the day.

Meanwhile, Delhi continued to be under thick smog with the CPCB reporting an average AQI of 337 at 7 am, falling under the “very poor” category despite GRAP-III measures currently in place. A layer of haze blanketed several parts of the capital, reducing visibility and impacting morning movement. AQI levels were particularly recorded as high at key locations:
