The Ministry of External Affairs on Sunday issued a clarification following protests outside the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi. The MEA rejected reports that protesters attempted to breach the fence of the premises.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said there was “misleading propaganda” in sections of the Bangladesh media regarding the incident.
MEA sets the record straight
“We have noted misleading propaganda in sections of the Bangladesh media on the incident. The fact is that about 20-25 youth gathered in front of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on December 20 and raised slogans in protest against the horrendous killing of Dipu Chandra Das in Mymensingh, while also calling for the protection of all minorities in Bangladesh,” the MEA said in a statement.

The ministry said there was no attempt to breach the High Commission’s fence or create a security situation. “The police stationed at the spot dispersed the group after a few minutes. Visual evidence of these events is available publicly for all to see,” the statement said.
India reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of foreign missions in accordance with the Vienna Convention, the MEA added.
Death of Osman Hadi
Following the death of student leader Sharif Osman Hadi, widespread unrest took over Bangladesh earlier this week. Protestors stormed Dhaka and nearby regions after the leader’s death was confirmed by the Yunus-led interim government.
Osman Hadi, the spokesperson for Inqilab Mancha, was critically injured after an assassination attempt in Dhaka on December 12. The leader was later airlifted to Singapore for treatment but succumbed to his injuries, as per an official statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Singapore.
