The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday announced the successful rollout of its upgraded Passport Seva Programme (PSP), which includes Passport Seva Programme V2.0 (PSP V2.0), the Global Passport Seva Programme V2.0 (GPSP V2.0), and the introduction of e-Passports for citizens both in India and abroad.

In keeping with the Ministry’s commitment to continually enhance the quality of passport-related services and integrate the latest technological advancements, PSP V2.0 was successfully implemented across all 37 Passport Offices in India, along with 93 Passport Seva Kendras (PSKs) and 450 Post Office Passport Seva Kendras (POPSKs) on May 26, 2025. Following this, GPSP V2.0 was launched across Indian Embassies and Consulates worldwide on October 28, 2025.
Digitally Integrated System for Transparency and Convenience
The upgraded PSP V2.0 has been designed to create a digitally integrated ecosystem connecting all stakeholders involved in passport services, with a focus on efficiency, transparency, and user convenience. Citizens can now access AI-powered chat and voice bots to receive assistance while filling applications or addressing passport-related grievances. The revamped passport website and mobile app offer features such as auto-filled forms, simplified document uploads, and easy online payments via UPI or QR codes.
The introduction of e-Passports represents a significant step forward in security and authentication. The hybrid e-Passport combines paper and electronic elements and includes an embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chip and antenna to securely store the holder’s data as per International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. All newly issued passports will now be e-Passports, while existing non-electronic passports remain valid until their expiry.
The Ministry of External Affairs emphasized that these initiatives reaffirm its dedication to ensuring the safety, security, and convenience of Indian citizens at home and abroad. The launch of PSP V2.0, GPSP V2.0, and e-Passports marks a significant technological upgrade, facilitating faster, more secure, and seamless travel while reflecting the government’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance the ease of living for citizens.
