In response to the Mumbai police’s request for the extradition of Anmol Bishnoi, the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that legal procedures will be followed in addressing the matter. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that investigations are currently underway and that action will be taken in accordance with established legal protocols.

Who is Anmol Bishnoi?

Anmol Bishnoi, who has been implicated in several high-profile crimes, including the notorious Baba Siddique murder case, has garnered significant attention. His legal troubles intensified after the US authorities informed the Mumbai police of his alleged presence in the United States, leading to the police’s decision to pursue his extradition.

The Mumbai police’s crime branch submitted a proposal to the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court, indicating their intent to initiate the extradition process. An affidavit was filed to facilitate the necessary actions, which the court approved. Following this, the Mumbai police forwarded the extradition proposal to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), which will subsequently relay it to the MEA.

When asked about the extradition specifics, Jaiswal emphasised that such matters are governed by legal frameworks, assuring that the government is committed to following due processes. “Investigation is underway. Probe is in progress. These matters come under the legal domain. And, since these things come under legal domain, so under established procedures, action will be taken on this issue,” he reiterated.

Both Anmol and Lawrence Bishnoi, originally from Fazilka in Punjab, have been named as key suspects in various criminal activities, including a firing incident that occurred outside Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s residence in Bandra, Mumbai, on April 14. The ramifications of this case not only highlight ongoing concerns regarding organized crime but also underscore the importance of international cooperation in addressing criminal activities that transcend borders.

As authorities work to extradite Anmol Bishnoi, the developments are being closely monitored, and it remains to be seen how this will unfold in the legal arena.
