The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a cold wave warning for parts of Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh. Cautioning people to take precautions as temperatures are expected to decline sharply on December 8 and 9. Sharing the alert on social media, IMD advised the citizens to “stay warm and stay safe” as cold conditions intensify across central and eastern India.
The Weather Department mentioned in its bulletin that cold wave conditions are very likely to prevail in isolated pockets over Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and north Vidarbha on both days. The IMD has also warned of dense fog during early morning hours in Odisha on December 8 and 9 and over parts of West Madhya Pradesh on December 8. Fog is predicted to impact Himachal Pradesh between December 8 and 10, and several northeastern states, including Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, and Nagaland, from December 8 to 12.

Cold wave to strengthen in North India, Kashmir records sub-zero temperatures
The cold conditions strengthened their grip across North India on Sunday, with sub-zero temperatures reported in parts of Jammu and Kashmir. The Pahalgam area, the base camp for the annual Amarnath Yatra, experienced the lowest minimum temperatures at minus 4.3 degrees Celsius. Srinagar recorded a minimum of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius, whereas Qazigund dropped to minus one degree, Kokernag registered 1.1 degrees Celsius, and Kupwara to minus 0.8 degrees.
IMD flags rain warning for multiple regions
Rainfall is likely to take place in several parts of the country because of the presence of multiple weather systems, including a cyclonic circulation, strong upper-level winds and a western disturbance.

Delhi Weather Forecast
In Delhi, the minimum temperatures settled at 8 degrees Celsius, which continued to be 1.6 degrees below normal, whereas the maximum was 24.7 degrees Celsius. The Met Department has forecast a minimum of 10 degrees and a maximum of 25 degrees on Monday. Mist is also likely to be there in the morning.
The IMD has also warned of dense fog in parts of Himachal Pradesh, with a yellow alert issued for areas near the Bhakra Dam in Bilaspur and in parts of the Balh valley in Mandi in the early morning of Monday. The dense fog is very likely to be present in isolated pockets of northeastern states from December 8 to December 12. Western India is also expected to see a gradual fall of two to three degrees over the next few days.
