BSP supremo Mayawati on Sunday called for a CBI investigation into the death of her party’s Tamil Nadu president, K Armstrong, who was brutally hacked to death on Friday. She asserted that those arrested so far were not the actual perpetrators and urged Chief Minister M K Stalin to transfer the case to the Central agency to ensure justice.
Mayawati, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, paid her respects to Armstrong by placing a wreath before his body at a private school in Perambur, Chennai.
Expressing deep sorrow over Armstrong’s death, she remarked that the manner of his killing by a group of assailants late in the evening indicated a complete breakdown of law and order in the state.
“Chief Minister Stalin must ensure justice for Armstrong by transferring the investigation to the Central Bureau of Investigation,” she said. “The real culprits are still at large. We cannot rely on the state government to deliver justice; thus, the case should be immediately handed over to the CBI.”
Mayawati also highlighted the growing apprehension among Dalits across the state following Armstrong’s murder and called on the Chief Minister to ensure their safety. She emphasised that while the BSP is taking the matter seriously, party workers must refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
