MLAs of the BJP-led NDA government in Manipur have sought a “mass operation” against militants responsible for the brutal killing of six civilians, including three women and three children, in Jiribam district.

During a Monday night meeting, attended by 27 MLAs, a resolution was passed seeking action within seven days.

A statement, issued by the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, also called for the group involved in the killings to be declared an “unlawful organisation” and urged the case to be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for a thorough probe, PTI reported.

“The Centre will review the imposition of AFSPA as per the order dated November 14 with immediate effect,” the statement said.

The legislators warned that if the resolutions are not implemented within the specified timeframe, they will decide the next steps in consultation with the people of Manipur.

The Centre and the state government will take “all necessary steps” to restore peace and normalcy in the strife-torn state, the statement assured. The MLAs also condemned attacks on the properties of ministers and legislators, emphasising that legal actions will be initiated against the miscreants involved, based on the findings of the High Powered Committee.

Seven MLAs were absent from the meeting on medical grounds, while notices were received from 11 others citing no specific reasons for their absence.

The resolution reflects the growing urgency to address violence in Manipur, which has seen repeated incidents of unrest.
