Seven people have allegedly died after receiving treatment from a fake cardiologist at a missionary hospital in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district. The incident has triggered outrage and prompted the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to launch an official investigation.
According to officials, a team from the NHRC will camp in Damoh from April 7 to 9 to probe the allegations. NHRC member Priyank Kanoongo confirmed the development, stating that the case involved a person impersonating a well-known UK-based cardiologist to gain the trust of unsuspecting patients.
The complaint, filed by local resident Deepak Tiwari, accuses a man identifying himself as Dr N John Camm of practicing in the cardiology department of Damoh’s Mission Hospital. However, the complainant alleges that the person’s real identity is Narendra Vikramaditya Yadav, who misused the name of the renowned British cardiologist Professor John Camm to deceive patients. Tiwari claims that multiple deaths occurred between January and February 2025 due to faulty treatment provided by Yadav.
Mission Hospital authorities have not released any statement on the matter so far.
Sharing details on social media, Kanoongo wrote, “A case of the untimely death of seven persons has come to light in a missionary hospital in Damoh where a fake doctor was operating in the name of treating heart disease. The hospital, reportedly empanelled under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Yojana, has also allegedly misused government funds.”
The NHRC’s investigation team is expected to examine the hospital, its staff and relevant administrative officials named in the complaint. Victims’ families and anyone with information related to the case have been invited to meet the team in Damoh during their visit.
The complaint also suggests that Yadav has a history of controversies and rarely stays at any one location for long. His pattern of moving between hospitals has raised further suspicions regarding his qualifications and intent.
District Collector Sudhir Kochar confirmed that the district administration had received the complaint and is conducting its own inquiry. “Further action will be taken once the investigation report is submitted,” Kochar said.
