A man was detained on Saturday for allegedly throwing a liquid on AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal during his ‘padyatra’ in Malviya Nagar, South Delhi, according to the police. The incident took place while Kejriwal was interacting with people behind a security cordon. As he was greeting the crowd, the man suddenly approached him and splashed the liquid on him.

Security personnel present at the scene quickly intervened and overpowered the man before he could cause any further disruption. Kejriwal, along with the security team, was seen wiping his face after the attack.

The man, who is believed to be a local resident of the area, was immediately taken into custody and brought to the nearby police station for questioning. The police did not release any further details about the motive behind the incident.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) strongly condemned the attack, questioning the safety of political leaders in the national capital. AAP spokespersons stated, “If a former chief minister is not safe in Delhi, where will the common man go?” They also lashed out at the BJP-led central government, blaming it for a breakdown in law and order under its rule. AAP further pointed out that the Delhi Police, which handles security in the city, falls under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

This incident comes ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, which are scheduled to take place in February. Kejriwal was holding a rally in Savitri Nagar, Malviya Nagar, as part of his campaign activities. The attack on him has added a layer of tension to the already charged political atmosphere in the city.
