Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2023: In another attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party to win over the women population of Madhya Pradesh in the upcoming assembly elections, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has amended the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules to make a reservation of 35% for women in all government jobs, barring the Forest Department.

According to the official statement by the Madhya Pradesh government released on Wednesday, October 3, “Notwithstanding anything contained in any service rules, there shall be reserved 35 percent of all posts in the service under the state (except forest department) in favor of women at the stage of direct recruitment, and the said reservation shall be horizontal and compartment-wise.”

Earlier on Tuesday, October 2, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh addressed a public meeting in Burhanpur and announced the 35% reservation in the police force and the 50 percent seat reserved in the teaching sector. “I will recruit 35 per cent daughters in the police force… they will fight goons… Not only that, there will be 50 per cent daughters among teachers as well,” he informed.

As per the data, Madhya Pradesh constitutes 5.52 crore voters, of which 2.67 crore are women, and almost 48 percent are women. Whereas 2.85 crore are male voters and 1,336 are transgender voters.

In August, CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan announced an increase in the amount of financial assistance provided to women under the Ladli Behna plan from Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,250 per month and the availability of cooking gas cylinders for Rs 450 on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan.

The opposition party Congress, on the other hand, has announced that if voted to power, it will provide gas cylinders and promised programs that prioritize women, such as monthly cash support of Rs. 1,500 and residential LPG cylinders costing Rs. 500.
