Ahead of the INDIA bloc meeting, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday highlighted the need for selecting a coordinator to lead the Opposition front, while simultaneously denying any notions of discord among member parties.
Speaking to the media in Delhi on Tuesday, Thackeray stressed the necessity of a coordinator similar to the roles played by George Fernandes and Sharad Yadav for their respective fronts.
“The coordinator would be a face for the INDIA front. It is necessary as every leader representing the front is busy with challenges in their states. The coordinator will ensure proper coordination and schedule,” he said.
“At the same time, let me clarify that the coordinator does not mean he or she will be the PM face,” he added.
Thackeray, addressing the media, asserted the significance of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in safeguarding democracy and the nation.
“Protecting democracy is crucial for us. Look at how things are happening in Parliament. MPs are being suspended. The working in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly is no different. Therefore, I emphasise we have to come together and emerge stronger to counter the forces that thwart democracy,” The Indian Express quoted Uddhav Thackeray.
When questioned about his potential candidacy for the prime ministerial position, the former Maharashtra Chief Minister dismissed it, stating, “My concern is Bharat and Maharashtra. I am not someone who hankers for power and post. The chief minister’s post was given to me. I never aspired to become the CM. I have no such ambitions of becoming the PM. Moreover, it is pointless. You strive to become PM but what about the people? What do they want?
Thackeray disclosed that preparations for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections would intensify in January of the upcoming year, with the polls slated for April-May. “We must collectively contest as the INDIA front,” he added.
