Lok Sabha Elections Phase 4: Voting for the fourth phase Lok Sabha election began at 7 am and has now concluded. A total of 96 seats spread across 10 states and Union Territories are up for grabs with 1,717 candidates in fray. Along with this simultaneously, voting was also held in 175 Assembly seats in Andhra Pradesh and 28 Assembly seats in Odisha. Polling took place across 13 in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, four in Odisha, eight in West Bengal, and one in Jammu and Kashmir. All 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and 17 seats in Telangana completed polling in a single phase today.
Key candidates in the fray included Akhilesh Yadav, Giriraj Singh, Nityanand Rai, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Asaduddin Owaisi as well as Mahua Moitra. Issues such as reservations, appeasement politics, corruption, and jobs dominated the narratives in the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections. Polling for the next three phases is scheduled for May 20, May 25, and June 1, with vote counting set for June 4. The earlier three phases saw voter turnout of 66.14, 66.7, and 65.68 per cent, respectively.

By the end of the day, the voter turnout has shot past 63%, with West Bengal taking the lead.

Addressing a public meeting in Uttar Pradesh's Raebareli, Congress leader and party's candidate from the constituency Rahul Gandhi said on Monday, "PM Narendra Modi has made two types of Jawans. One is the son of a poor, Dalit, minorities and the other is from a rich family. He has given a new name to the son of the poor, Agniveer, who won't be getting any facilities like pension, canteen...but, if you are a senior officer or one amongst the four, you'll get all those things. In the military, they have created 'two-India', two types of 'shaheed'."

After exercising her franchise, Mahajan said, "I want to appeal to everyone to come out and cast their votes wisely. We need to elect good people who are working for the development of the country. On being asked about a video where she is seen checking the IDs of voters, the BJP candidate from Hyderabad, Madhavi Latha, said, "I am a candidate. As per law candidate has the right to check the ID cards without the facemasks. I am not a man, I am a woman and with a lot of humbleness, I have only requested them - can I please see and verify with the ID cards? If somebody wants to make a big issue out of it, that means they are scared..."

In response, a TMC worker said, "We don't even know where the BJP camp office is. We are doing our work... They should check the CCTV, they will know who did it. Whoever did it should be arrested. A clash broke out between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Durgapur, West Bengal. During the fourth phase of elections, voting is taking place on 8 seats in Bengal. 
In a written complaint to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has alleged that Trinamool Congress workers ransacked the homes of polling agents and illegally detained a BJP worker in Purba Bardhaman district on Sunday night.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Mukesh Kumar Meena on Monday said three TDP polling agents who were allegedly kidnapped in Chittoor district have been traced and secured, according to PTI.
The TDP agents were kidnapped from Bokaramanda village in Chittoor district's Sadum mandal, which falls under the Punganuru Assembly constituency, according to a press release from the CEO's office.

Congress's Koppula Raju, TDP's Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy from NDA and YSRCP's V Vijaysai Reddy are contesting elections from the Nellore seat. YSRCP's Adala Prabhakara Reddy won from here in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
After casting his vote, YSRCP candidate Vijayasai Reddy said, "It is the responsibility of the police force to maintain queues and that there is no chaotic situation in the polling station. Police authorities have miserably failed where I have come to exercise my vote and they are trying to regulate and are asking for time to regulate queues and restore the order... All voters should exercise their voting right and elect the appropriate government."
As voting for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections began on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged eligible voters to perform their duty and "strengthen democracy".
He took to X and stated, "Voting is being held today in 96 seats of 10 states and union territories in the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections. I am confident that people will vote in large numbers in all these seats, in which youth and women voters will participate in large numbers. Come, let us perform our duty and strengthen democracy!"
AIMIM candidate from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday, after casting his vote, said, "Every election cannot be the same as it was 5 years ago. The challenges are different, issues are different. This is a very important, historic parliamentary election in our country...People have a different understanding and what they want for the country...Elections should always be taken seriously whether it is a Parliament election or a Panchayat election. We should always take our opponent seriously..."
After casting her vote, BJP candidate from Hyderabad Lok Sabha constituency, Madhavi Latha said, "I want to appeal to my voter brother and sisters, that every vote you cast, will not just take Hyderabad and Telangana, but the whole nation forward. Your vote will give the much-needed change in Hyderabad and Telangana..."
She is in a direct contest with AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi in the Hyderabad constituency.
The earlier three phases, on April 19, April 26 and May 7, saw a voter turnout of 66.14, 66.7, and 65.68 per cent, respectively, witnessing a consistent dip compared to the 2019 elections.
Polling is taking place across 13 seats in Uttar Pradesh, five in Bihar, four in Jharkhand, eight in Madhya Pradesh, 11 in Maharashtra, four in Odisha, eight in West Bengal, and one in Jammu and Kashmir. Polling on all 25 Lok Sabha constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and 17 seats in Telangana will be completed today.
