The All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) will mull over a proposal put forth by its Member of Parliament, Imtiaz Jaleel, to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai, party president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Monday,as PTI reported.
Addressing reporters at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar in central Maharashtra, Owaisi noted that political parties claiming to be secular are facing turmoil in the state. He slashed the leaders from the opposition camp who recently joined the BJP or its alliance partners.

“A proposal from Imtiaz Jaleel to contest the Lok Sabha polls from Mumbai (which has 6 parliamentary seats) has been received by the party. The party will consider it and make a decision.” Jaleel is the AIMIM’s Member of Parliament based in Hyderabad, representing Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Regarding the Mira Road incident on January 21, just a day before the ‘pran pratistha’ ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Owaisi came down heavily on the action of government agencies demolishing “illegal” shops following the violence.

“The government demolished shops and houses of people in Mira Road, which was a one-sided action. I condemn the action, which affected people and destroyed their businesses,” said the Hyderabad MP.
Furthermore, Owaisi accused leaders from opposition parties of opportunism, stating, “No one bothered to meet those affected individuals at the time. Now, individuals driven by self-interest who claim to be secular will visit Mira Road for votes (in the run-up to polls).”

Owaisi also highlighted what he perceives as the “true face” of political outfits like the Congress and the undivided Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). He referred to the appointment of Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray as the chief minister of Maharashtra in November 2019, pointing to the chaos within parties claiming to be secular.
“In Maharashtra, parties claiming to be secular are in a state of chaos. Ashok Chavan (a former Congress CM) has joined the BJP and will go to the Rajya Sabha. Another leader (Baba Siddique) has aligned with the Ajit Pawar faction of the NCP,” Owaisi stated, stressing the shifting political landscape.
The AIMIM president concluded by mentioning that the party will carefully consider Imtiaz Jaleel’s proposal for the Mumbai Lok Sabha polls and make a decision in due course.
