In a case of viral video, a 16-year-old class XI girl from Kerala allegedly claims that her father was facing death threats from the local leaders of CPI(M) for joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The girl who has been identified as Ashwini, daughter of Sukumaran in a Facebook video stated that her father who had recently joined BJP is allegedly being given death threats by local CPM workers in Kerala’s Kasaragod district. The girl in the video can be seen appealing for help for her father. Sukumaran had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party at a function in Kanjangad in the presence of state party president Kummanam Rajasekharan. Ashwini in the video said that the local Communist Party of India (Marxist) leaders did not like the idea of Sukumaran joining the BJP as the area is known to be a stronghold of the Communists.

As seen in the video, the class XI students can be seen saying that day before yesterday “my father and I were returning from my school in Karinthalam when five CPM workers threatened him for joining the BJP. They said they will not let him live and that they will kill him in the town itself. They boasted that they are not scared of anyone, especially the police.” The girl further said, “To go to school, I have to walk to Karinthalam for 20 minutes. Now, my father is accompanying me. Yesterday, we had to take an alternative route because they were waiting for us.”
