Honey Trap row: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has replied to the opposition’s demand for a judicial investigation into alleged honey trap incidents targeting politicians, assuring that no one would be spared if they are found guilty. ‘’Once a formal complaint is filed, a probe will follow. There is no question of protecting anyone. The Home Minister has already ordered a high-level investigation,’’ he stated in the assembly, as quoted by ANI.
Opposition protest with CDs
As per the latest report, several BJP legislators shouted loud slogans of ‘’Down, Down!’’ whereas some members displayed CDs in their hands, claiming they have evidence related to the honey trap scam. The protest intensified as they rushed into the well of the House and obstructed CM’s Siddaramaiah’s address.
Minister claims network spread across state
The issue came into the limelight after Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna revealed in the House that 48 individuals in the state have been reported victims of honey trap scams. As explicit videos of them have been circulated. ‘’There are CDs and on drives of 48 people available in the state. This network extends across India and has seven union ministers,’’ Rajanna stated, as reported by PTI.
Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi has also disclosed that a senior minister has been the target of two failed honeytrap attempts. ‘’This is not the first time it has happened in Karnataka. We have advised the minister to file a complaint so police can probe, ‘’ he mentioned to reporters. Jhariholi has called for a non-partial approach. He also added that such incidents have happened in earlier governments as well.
Opposition leaders from the BJP have also taken a firm stand, demanding quick action and blaming the Congress-led government for failing to safeguard its own members. BJP MLA V Sunil Kumar, stated, ‘’ When a minister himself makes such claims, the situation is serious. If the government does not act, we will have to assume it is complicit.’’
