The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) unveiled its manifesto on Saturday for the upcoming Assembly elections, with a strong commitment to restoring Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood.

PDP President Mehbooba Mufti, alongside senior party leaders, released the manifesto at a function held at the party headquarters in Srinagar.

Titled ‘People’s Aspirations,’ the manifesto stresses the party’s dedication to advocating for diplomatic initiatives between India and Pakistan, aiming to establish full connectivity across the Line of Control (LoC) to enhance trade and social exchanges, PTI reported.

The party has also promised to push for the creation of a regional free-trade area and a shared economic market. Additionally, the party is committed to seeking the revocation of controversial laws such as the Public Safety Act (PSA), Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the Enemy Act, along with the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Another key promise in the manifesto is to revisit and address the cases of “unjust” job terminations, referencing the dismissal of J&K government employees on charges related to terror abetment.

The Election Commission (EC) has issued the notification for the first phase of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, covering 24 seats. These will be the first assembly polls in the region since the abrogation of Article 370.

The elections will take place in three phases on September 18, 25, and October 1, with results to be declared on October 4.
