Five soldiers tragically lost their lives after an Army vehicle met with an accident near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, officials confirmed on Tuesday evening.

The incident occurred at 5:20 PM when a 2.5-ton vehicle, part of a convoy of six vehicles, went off the road into a nallah while traveling on the Operational Track on the home side of the LoC fence.

The vehicle was carrying ten personnel at the time of the incident. The five injured soldiers were promptly evacuated to a field hospital in Poonch for medical treatment. The cause of the accident is under investigation, with preliminary findings suggesting the driver may have lost control at a turn in the road.

Authorities have ruled out any terrorist involvement in the incident, supported by ground reports. The nearest Army post was approximately 130 meters from the site, and a backup vehicle was just 40 meters away.

According to initial reports, the accident occurred in the Balnoi area when an Army vehicle plunged into a gorge.

The White Knight Corps expressed their condolences, posting on X, “All ranks of White Knight Corps extend their deepest condolences on the tragic loss of five brave soldiers in a vehicle accident during operational duty in the Poonch sector.”

Rescue operations are underway, and the injured personnel are receiving medical care.

Further details about the incident are awaited.
