The death toll in the accident including an Army vehicle in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district has increased to four as one more soldier succumbed to injuries, the Chinar Corps tweeted.

The accident occurred on Saturday (January 4) near SK Payen in the north Kashmir district when the Army vehicle veered off the road and fell into a steep gorge. Rescue teams promptly reached the scene and evacuated the injured soldiers to the district hospital in Bandipora.

Dr Masrat Iqbal, the medical superintendent of the Bandipora district hospital, confirmed that two soldiers were “brought dead” to the facility. The incident shed light on the persistent risks faced by Army personnel operating in challenging terrains. Narrow roads, unpredictable weather, and difficult landscapes often pose significant dangers in the region.

Authorities have expressed their condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers and assured the injured of the best possible medical treatment. Further investigations are underway to determine the cause of the accident.
