In its most recent bulletin, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted a period of scattered rainfall in Northwest India, possibly accompanied by hail, gusty winds, and thunderstorms starting tomorrow and lasting until April 21. Northeast India is expected to experience light to moderate rainfall from today (April 17). 

IMD’S Forecast and Warnings:

Starting April 18, Northwest India may be impacted by a new Western Disturbance. Consequently, there could be widespread light to moderate rainfall or snowfall, accompanied by lightning, thunderstorms, and gusty winds ranging from 30-40 kmph. These conditions are expected to affect areas including Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Gilgit, Ladakh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, and Baltistan until April 21st, 2024.

States that are predicted to have scatterd rainfall are West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Haryana. The IMD has also predicted lightning, thunderstorms and gusty winds of around 30-40 kmph from Thursday, and these are expected to continue till April 20th.

IMD has also forecasted strong surface winds over Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Haryana on Wednesday. Isolated hailstorm activity is expected in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Muzaffarabad, Ladakh, Baltistan, Gilgit, and Jammu Kashmir from April 18th to April 19th.

Fairly widespread moderate rainfall or snowfall, accompanied by lightning and thunderstorms, is anticipated in Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh due to a Western Disturbance moving from Northwest to Northeast India from tomorrow until April 21st, 2024.

A heavy rainfall is likely in Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, and Assam today and on April 19th.

Temperature To watch:

There will be a slight rise in maximum temperature by 2-4°C in Central India today and with no notable changes after. Same pattern is likely to be visible in Maharashtra and East India till April 19th. No significant revision in maximum temperature is alerted by the IMD for the rest of India.
