The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for several parts of the country for the next few days. According to the IMD, a cyclonic circulation over the Southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Maldives area in lower and middle tropospheric levels is likely to cause light to moderate rainfall at some to many places, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in the upcoming days.

The IMD has also warned of isolated heavy rainfall over Kerala, Mahe, and Tamil Nadu, starting today. The rainfall activity is expected to reduce gradually thereafter.

Snowfall or rainfall in a hilly region

Meanwhile, a fresh, feeble Western disturbance is likely to affect the Western Himalayan Region from tomorrow. This may bring isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand during the next few days.

Hailstorms in West Bengal and Sikkim

The IMD has also issued a hailstorm warning for isolated places over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim starting December 12. The hailstorm may cause damage to crops and property in the affected areas.

Dense fog in Central and East India

In addition, dense fog during the morning hours is likely in isolated pockets over north Madhya Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and Assam and Meghalaya starting today. The fog may reduce visibility and affect road, rail, and air traffic in these regions.

The IMD has also forecast a gradual fall in minimum temperatures by about 2-3°C over Central and East India during the next 2 days and no significant change after that. No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over the rest of the country during the next 4 to 5 days.
