The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple parts of the country including Konkan region, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Odisha, Goa, Kerala and coastal Karnataka. The Met department has also forecasted of a formation of a low pressure over East Central Arabian sea off south Konkan-Goa coasts and another low pressure area over Northeast and adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

Top five rainfall spots

In the past 24 hours, the highest rainfall has been recorded at Andaman’s Long Island (15 cm) followed by Kerala’s Cherthala (15 cm), Goa’s Dabolim (12 cm), Chhattisgarh’s Kusmi (12 cm) and Telangana’s Tadwai (11 cm).

Odisha

The Met department has predicted heavy rainfall resulting in inundation of low-lying areas, flash flood and landslide in some places. It forecast heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) in places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Bhadrak districts. In a bulletin, the weather office has issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Balasore districts for Saturday. Yellow warning of heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) has been issued for Sundergarh, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Sambalpur, Angul, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur and Khurda districts. Thunderstorms with lightning may occur at one or two places in North Odisha, South coastal Odisha, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Balangir and Kalahandi. 

Kerala

The weather office has issued an ‘Orange Alert’ in four districts – Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Kannur and Kasaragod. The rest of the 10 districts — Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Wayanad and Kozhikode have been placed under ‘Yellow Alert.’

West Bengal

Kolkata is likely to experience generally cloudy skies with a few spells of rain or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperature are likely to be around 29 and 26 degrees celsius respectively. The thunderstorm with lightning is likely to occur at one or two places over all the Sub Himalayan districts.
