The West Bengal CID (Criminal Investigation Department) has made a breakthrough in the investigation of the murder of Bangladesh MP Anwarul Azim Anar after the arrest of Jihad Hawladar, an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh, who lived in Mumbai.
Hawladar has confessed to his involvement in the murder and dismemberment of the Bangladesh MP’s body in an apartment in New Town, Kolkata, CID sources told NDTV.
The MP, Anwarul Azim, had been missing since May 14, two days after he arrived in Kolkata. Bangladesh Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan confirmed his death on May 22 during a press conference. Khan said that the MP was killed in Kolkata and three people have been arrested in this connection.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the MP was skinned, chopped up in an apartment and disposed of in several plastic packets across the city, NDTV reported.
Shocking details have emerged of how the crime was meticulously planned and executed. Hawladar has reportedly disclosed that the mastermind was Akhtaruzzaman, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin. On Akhtaruzzaman’s orders, Hawladar, along with four other Bangladeshi nationals, smothered and killed the MP in the New Town apartment.
The Bengal CID has found bloodstains inside the New Town apartment and also recovered several plastic bags, which they believe were used to dump the body parts.
The police say they are trying to get more information on the location of the body parts of the murdered Bangladesh politician, NDTV reported.
Anwarul, a member of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s party Awami League, had come to Kolkata for medical treatment on May 12.
The 56-year-old politician was staying at the residence of his friend, Gopal Biswas. After he went missing, Biswas filed a complaint with the Kolkata Police.
Anwarul Azim Anar’s family also raised the issue with Sheikh Hasina, and her office informed diplomats in Delhi and Kolkata.
