Dilip Ghosh, a former BJP MP from West Bengal, found himself at the centre of controversy during a road inauguration in Kharagpur, West Midnapore, on the afternoon of March 21. A group of local women vehemently protested his presence, questioning his absence during his tenure as an MP and challenging his sudden involvement in the road project. The protestors credited Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor Pradeep Sarkar with the project.
What Dilip Ghosh said
The situation quickly escalated into a heated verbal exchange. Irritated by the protest, Ghosh claimed that the funding for the road came from him and not “anyone’s father.” When a woman objected to his remarks, referencing his position as a former MP, Ghosh aggressively retorted that he could “drag in 14 generations” if he wished. As the confrontation intensified, Ghosh threatened, “Stop yelling, or I’ll strangle you,” further enraging the crowd.

Despite efforts by BJP workers and Ghosh’s security personnel to control the situation, the scene soon turned chaotic. As the shouting continued, one of Ghosh’s team members questioned whether the protesting women were affiliated with Mamata Banerjee’s TMC, to which Ghosh responded by calling them “TMC dogs.” Protesters surrounded Ghosh’s vehicle, with some slapping the car. The police arrived, but Ghosh was forced to leave amid rising tension.
Ghosh and controversy
Dilip Ghosh is no stranger to controversy. In March 2024, the BJP issued a show-cause notice over his “indecent” remarks about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. At a public event, Ghosh mocked Banerjee, stating, “Decide who your father is. It’s not right to be anybody’s daughter,” drawing widespread criticism.
