Hyderabad’s renowned Taj Banjara Hotel, located in Banjara Hills, was sealed on Thursday (February 20, 2025) by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) for defaulting on Property Tax payments for two years.
Officials from Jubilee Hills Circle locked all three entry gates of the luxury hotel and pasted notices on the doors, citing unpaid tax dues of Rs 1.43 crore. The hotel, part of the Taj Group of Hotels, had reportedly ignored multiple notices sent over the past two months, prompting GHMC to take strict action.
However, by Friday (February 21, 2025), the hotel management made a partial payment of Rs 55 lakh, following which the locks were removed. Officials stated that the remaining amount must be cleared by March 10.
GHMC’s Revenue Wing confirmed that while the hotel has now committed to settling the dues, further action will be taken if the full amount is not paid within the stipulated time.
The incident highlights the GHMC’s ongoing drive to recover pending property tax dues from defaulters, including high-profile commercial establishments across the city.
