Turncoats or party-hoppers in elections winning a seat is not a new phenomenon and the Delhi Assembly election was no exception. Several former Congress, BJP, or AAP candidates contested on other party tickets in Delhi elections 2025.

Some of the constituencies that witnessed contests between party switchers were Bijwasan, Chhatarpur, and Gandhi Nagar. In Gandhi Nagar, BJP’s Arvinder Singh Lovely, a former Delhi Congress chief, won by a margin of 12,748 votes defeating Naveen Chaudhary of the Aam Aadmi Party. Kamal Arora of the Indian National Congress recently moved from AAP and was in third place securing 3,453 votes.

BJP’s Tarwinder Singh Marwah, a three-term Congress MLA, defeated Manish Sisodia by 675 votes. Manish Sisodia losing to Tarvinder Singh Marwah in the Delhi Assembly election is a significant upset for the Aam Aadmi Party. Sisodia, who moved from Patparganj to Jangpura, conceded defeat and expressed hope that the winning BJP would prioritize the welfare of the people in the area, congratulating the winning candidate.

Marwah, a former Congress leader and MLA from Jangpura criticized Congress leaders Sonia and Rahul Gandhi for not meeting in 2022. He later joined the BJP and took sarcastic remarks at BJP headquarters, referring to them as ‘raja’ and’maharani’.

Gurjar leaders, Brahm Singh Tanwar and Kartar Singh Tanwar, have switched allegiances in South Delhi’s Chhatarpur constituency, with Brahm Singh Tanwar contesting on an AAP ticket and sitting AAP MLA Kartar Singh Tanwar moving to the BJP. Kartar Singh Tanwar won by 6,239 votes defeating Brahm Singh Tanwar.

Former AAP minister Kailash Gahlot is leading with over 9,000 votes in Bijwasan, against AAP’s Surender Bhardwaj and Congress’ Col Devinder Kumar Sehrawat, who won the seat in 2015 as an AAP candidate.

Manjinder Singh Sirsa, who transitioned from Akali Dal to BJP, won the Rajouri Garden seat by over 18,000 votes.

Jitender Singh Shunty, a former BJP MLA, has switched to AAP but lost to BJP’s Sanjay Goyal in Shahdara. Rajkumar Chauhan, Bharatiya Janata Party, a former senior Congress minister won the Mangolpuri seat by more than 6,000 votes.
