A woman’s body was discovered stuffed in a suitcase near the Sampla bus stand in Rohtak, Haryana, on Saturday, according to police. The deceased has been identified as Himani Narwal, a Congress party worker from the district.
The suitcase found abandoned on the highway near a flyover, was spotted by passersby who immediately informed the authorities. Upon arrival, police opened the suitcase and found the woman’s body inside. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination.
Bijendra Singh, in charge of the Sampla police station, confirmed that the case is being treated as a murder investigation. According to the Indian Express, he stated, “We have identified the deceased as Himani Narwal, and we are in touch with her family. Further investigations are ongoing.”
Mother suspects political rivalry
Himani Narwal’s mother, Savita, suspects that the perpetrators could be from the party or even people close to her daughter, citing that Himani made enemies due to her political involvement. Savita shared that Himani had become disillusioned with the party after the elections, expressing a desire for a job and less involvement in politics.

Savita also mentioned a family dispute and the fear for her family’s safety, revealing that after the 2011 death of her elder son, she had sent her younger son to a BSF camp for protection. Despite attempts to contact Asha Hooda, wife of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Savita said her calls were unanswered. She vowed not to perform her daughter’s last rites until justice is served.
Political leaders demand high-level probe
Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Rohtak MLA BB Batra expressed their shock over the incident and called for a thorough investigation.
Hooda condemned the brutal nature of the murder, calling it “extremely sad and shocking.” He added that the incident was a stain on the state’s law and order and demanded an impartial, high-level investigation, ensuring harsh punishment for the perpetrators.
Batra noted that Narwal had actively participated in Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra during its Haryana leg and was a dedicated party worker.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda wrote on X, “The news of the barbaric murder of active Congress worker Himani Narwal in Rohtak is extremely sad and shocking. I pay my tribute to the departed soul and express my deepest condolences to the family members. The murder of a girl in this manner and finding her body in a suitcase is extremely sad and shocking. This in itself is a blot on the law and order situation of the state.”
Sandeep Dikshit told ANI, “If there are any doubts of a political angle, then the government should take it seriously and ensure a thorough police investigation. If Haryana Congress has demanded a high-level investigation, then it suggests concerns about the initial probe. I also demand the same.”
Congress MLA from Jhajjar, Geeta Bhukkal, also voiced concerns, stating, “It is a very painful and inhumane incident. The manner in which a daughter was killed is deeply concerning. Where is our society heading? There should be a high-level investigation into this. Himani Narwal was a very active party worker, and a high-level committee should be formed to ensure justice.”
