A 30-year-old Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker was allegedly shot by two bike-borne men at a polling booth in Faridabad on October 5, the day when voting took place in Haryana in a single phase.

According to the police, the incident unfolded when the victim, identified as Rajnish, who had also been associated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for the past 14 years, was sitting near Nidhi Public School with a table as people waited during the polling exercise.

The two assailants, their faces covered with a cloth and riding a motorbike without a number plate, had a brief exchange with Rajnish before firing at him. He sustained a waist injury and was hospitalised, police added.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Vivek Kundu, who visited the hospital, said that the victim’s condition is stable. He confirmed that an investigation is underway.

Rajnish lives in Bharat Colony, falling under the Faridabad assembly constituency, with his home situated on 33 Feet Road. After hearing about the shooting, former cabinet minister and BJP candidate Vipul Goyal visited the hospital to check upon him.

He stressed that those responsible should be held accountable, stating that whether the victim is a BJP worker or a member of any other party, the law provides the same protection to everyone.
