He has garnered 1,05,514 votes against his rival Pujala Hari Krishna of the Congress party who polled 23,206 votes. BJP candidate Rani Rudrama Reddy has polled 23,209 votes. Thaneeru Harish Rao has served as the MLA from Siddipet constituency for the BRS since 2004. His victory in the 2018 assembly election made him the youngest six-time member of any legislative assembly in India. Counting in the Sircilla constituency began at 8 AM. The results were declared after the completion of 20 rounds of counting.

In the 2018 Telangana assembly elections, Thanneeru Harish Rao secured victory from Siddhipet constituency with 131,295 votes (78.59%), defeating his BJP rival Naini Narotham Reddy, who had secured 11,266 votes (6.74%). In the 2014 elections, Thanneeru Harish Rao claimed victory with 1,08,699 votes, surpassing Congress candidate Taduri Srinivas Goud by 93,328 votes. The 2018 Telangana elections saw BRS winning 88 seats, Congress securing 19 seats, while the BJP won only one seat.
