In a significant move, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced an increase in compensation for farmers whose land is being acquired for the Noida International Airport in Jewar. The compensation rate has been raised from Rs 3,100 per square meter to Rs 4,300 per square meter, according to an official statement.
Announcing the decision on X (formerly Twitter), CM Yogi expressed gratitude to the farmers: “Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Asia’s largest airport is being built in Jewar. The credit for this development goes to the farmers. Hearty congratulations and salutations to all the farmer brothers!”
Additionally, CM Yogi assured that farmers would receive interest as per regulations, along with complete resettlement arrangements and employment opportunities for those affected.
Farmers Welcome the Decision
The announcement was met with widespread appreciation from the farmers, who lauded the Chief Minister’s decision. Farmers expressed their trust in CM Yogi Adityanath’s leadership, thanking him for addressing their concerns and ensuring fair compensation.
Highlighting the transformative potential of the Jewar Airport project, CM Yogi said, “Jewar remained immersed in darkness for decades, and now it is ready to shine on the world stage. In the next 10 years, Jewar will become the most developed area of the country.”
The Noida International Airport is set to begin operations in April 2025, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated to inaugurate the mega infrastructure project.
Expanding Connectivity and Infrastructure
The Jewar Airport is envisioned to become a global aviation hub with an annual passenger capacity of 70 million by 2040. The Chief Minister outlined key connectivity initiatives:
- Integration with the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) to enhance accessibility.
- Connections to major expressways, including the Eastern Peripheral Road, Yamuna Expressway, Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, and the Delhi-Varanasi High-Speed Rail.
Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) Hub in Jewar
CM Yogi emphasised plans to establish a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility near Jewar Airport. This development aims to position Jewar as a global destination for aircraft maintenance, repair, and overhauling, boosting the region’s industrial and economic profile.
Highlighting the significance of the airport for the region, CM Yogi remarked, “Earlier, bullets used to be fired for land in this place, and now farmers are happily donating land.” This statement underscores the shift in perception and the cooperative spirit among the local community.
The Jewar Airport project, one of India’s most ambitious infrastructure ventures, is poised to transform connectivity in the National Capital Region (NCR) and western Uttar Pradesh. Union Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has confirmed that the airport is on track for completion, with operations set to commence in April 2025.
The project not only promises to enhance connectivity but also holds the potential to catalyse economic growth, create employment opportunities, and establish Jewar as a key hub for global aviation and commerce.
