A cloudburst hit a remote village in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, claiming four lives and injuring six others, news agency PTI reported citing officials.
The incident occurred in Jod Ghati village of Rajbagh during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, cutting off access to the area and damaging land and property. After strenuous efforts, a joint team of police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) managed to reach the site and joined local volunteers in the rescue operation.
Officials confirmed that four bodies have been recovered so far, while six injured persons were rescued and shifted to hospital.
Meanwhile, landslides were also reported from Bagard and Changda villages under Kathua police station, as well as Dilwan-Hutli in the Lakhanpur police station area, though no major damage has been reported there.
Heavy rainfall has caused a sharp rise in water levels across the region, with the Ujh river flowing close to the danger mark. The district administration is monitoring the situation closely and has urged residents to stay away from water bodies for their safety.
