The University of Delhi has suspended Professor Rasal Singh, Principal of Ramanujan College, after a faculty member filed a complaint accusing him of harassment and hostile behavior, officials confirmed on Monday.

The suspension order, issued last week, comes after a complaint filed on March 13.

Before taking the suspension decision, the matter was reviewed by a fact-finding committee and a governing body panel. The suspension is pending further inquiry, according to a report by ANI.

Principal calls complaint ‘false and retaliatory’

In a grievance submitted to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on September 13, Singh described the allegations as “false and retaliatory” and said they were linked to a promotion case that had not been approved.

“The timing clearly indicates the retaliatory and afterthought nature of the complaint,” Singh wrote.

He claimed the complaint was false and a “coordinated attempt by his colleagues.”

Singh also raised concerns about procedural lapses, noting that the complaint was not referred to the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) as required under UGC and PoSH rules, the report mentioned.

He further alleged that the complaint was filed after the Internal Quality Assurance Cell did not consider the complainant’s promotion due to incomplete documentation, despite repeated reminders.

“Despite the lapse of over six months since the complaint was filed, it has not yet been referred to the ICC. Instead, I am facing undue political pressure to resign under threat of termination or suspension,” he wrote.

Principal highlights academic record

Singh, who previously served as Dean of Students’ Welfare and Dean of Languages at the Central University of Jammu, highlighted his contributions to Ramanujan College, including its rise in NIRF rankings from 65 to 37.

“This unfounded allegation has caused severe professional damage and personal distress, tarnishing my hard-earned reputation as a first-generation academic from a rural background,” he stated.
