Prime Minister Narendra Modi sparked a social media storm on Monday after he shared a spoof video of himself dancing on stage. The video, originally of American rapper Lil Yachty’s performance, was creatively edited to depict PM Modi strutting and dancing using artificial intelligence.

A handle by the name of ‘Atheist Krishna’, the creator of the spoof video of PM Modi, posted the video on X with the caption: “Posting this video cuz I know that ‘THE DICTATOR’ is not going to get me arrested for this (sic).”

Taking this in sporting spirit, Modi reposted that video, and said, “Like all of you, I also enjoyed seeing myself dance. Such creativity in peak poll season is truly a delight.”

This came shortly after a similar video of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee surfaced online, leading to notices issued by the Cyber Crime division of Kolkata Police to users who shared it.

In response to the posts shared by two X users, the Cyber Crime division of Kolkata Police issued notices under Section 149 of CrPC (Prevention of cognisable offences). Initially, the Kolkata Police directed them to disclose their identities, warning of potential legal action if the information was not provided. However, the police later deleted their reply to the posts.

However, even after the police notice, the spoof video continued to circulate widely on social media platforms.

BJP targets Kolkata police, Mamata Banerjee

In a scathing attack, BJP IT cell chief Amit Malviya targeted the Kolkata Police’s notice, saying, “Relax Kolkata Police. You have other more pressing issues on hand, rather than acting like Mamata Banerjee’s doormat. For instance, TMC workers are assaulting women across Kolkata for having political views different from the ruling party or worse, they have hung obscene posters deriding the Prime Minister across the greater Kolkata area… What have you done about them?”

“This is the same Kolkata Police that hounded a Jadavpur University professor for almost 10 years at the behest of Bengal CM, just because he shared a cartoon of Mamata Banerjee on WhatsApp. They are at it again,” he added in his post on X.

Meanwhile, actor and BJP candidate from Mandi Lok Sabha seat, Kangana Ranaut, took a jab at CM Mamata Banerjee, saying, “Mamata didi ji, this is called taking a chill pill. Aap bhi kabhi le liya karo, hamesha gusse mein rehti ho. Bachchon ne aapka dancing meme kya bana diya, aap toh unko jail mein daalne lagi. How uncool of you! Sorry to say but you are too uptight, rigid, and uncool.”
