Delhi Fire: A fire in a residential building in Delhi’s Dwarka Sector-13 claimed three lives on Tuesday morning, after a father and his two children jumped from their apartment in a desperate attempt to escape the flames. The incident occurred at Shapath Society, near MRV School, where a fire broke out on the eighth and ninth floors around 9:58 am.

According to Delhi Fire Services, visuals from the site showed thick black smoke and fierce flames bursting from the building’s windows. Panic spread rapidly among residents as the fire intensified.

Three die in fire tragedy

Among the worst affected was the Yadav family. Yash Yadav, 35, who was engaged in the flex board business, jumped from the balcony with his 10-year-old daughter and son. Tragically, all three succumbed to injuries — the children were declared dead at Aakash Hospital, while Yadav was pronounced dead at IGI Hospital.

Yadav’s wife and elder son managed to survive and are currently undergoing treatment at IGI Hospital.

Firefighting and rescue operations

Upon receiving the emergency call, eight fire tenders were immediately dispatched. As the fire’s scale became clearer, more units and a skylift were deployed for rescue efforts. All residents of Shapath Society were successfully evacuated, and authorities cut off gas and electricity connections to prevent further hazards.

The Delhi Fire Department has not yet identified the cause of the blaze, and a detailed investigation is underway.

In the aftermath, both the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) have been alerted to examine the structural stability of the building. Officials say a thorough assessment will be conducted before residents can return.

Cause of fire not known

While the fire has been brought under control, the origin of the fire remains unknown, and investigators are expected to examine the building’s fire alarms, wiring, and safety protocols.
