President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Delhi on Sunday, wrapping up her official visit to Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi. The tour, which ran from October 13 to 19, focused on strengthening diplomatic relations and expanding cooperation between India and these African nations.

The final stop of the tour was Malawi, where President Murmu departed from Kamuzu International Airport in Lilongwe after a ceremonial farewell. In Malawi, she held talks with President Lazarus Chakwera on Friday, culminating in the signing of several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as arts and culture, youth affairs, sports, and pharmaceutical cooperation.

President Murmu also announced India’s support for establishing a permanent Artificial Limb Fitment Centre in Malawi.

During her visit, she commended the Indian diaspora for their role in deepening ties between the two nations. President Murmu’s arrival in Malawi on October 17 was met with a ceremonial welcome and traditional cultural performances at the airport.

She was greeted by Malawi’s Vice President, Michael Usi, and other dignitaries.

This marked the first-ever visit by an Indian President to the three African nations, following India’s role in securing the African Union’s permanent membership in the G20 during its presidency.

Murmu was accompanied on the trip by Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar and Members of Parliament Mukeshkumar Dalal and Atul Garg.
