A day after the Supreme Court’s nudge, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi on Friday administered the oath of office to DMK MLA K Ponmudy at the Raj Bhawan in Chennai.

The Governor had accepted Chief Minister M K Stalin’s recommendation on re-inducting Ponmudy in the Cabinet led by him, the Raj Bhavan said.

Stalin has recommended to Ravi to allocate him the subjects Higher Education including Technical Education, Electronics, Science and Technology currently held by Backward Classes Minister R S Rajakannappan.

The Supreme Court expressed “grave concern” on Thursday regarding Ravi’s actions for declining to reinstate Ponmudy as a minister in the state cabinet, even after the court suspended his prior conviction.

Within 24 hours, the Supreme Court directed the Governor to make a decision on the matter. Despite the Chief Minister’s recommendation, the Governor declined to reinstate Ponmudy, whose conviction and three-year sentence in a disproportionate assets case were recently stayed by the top court.
