The suicide of a teen student in Delhi has caught nation’s eye with the parents alleging continuous “harassment” and “humiliation” of their child by one of his teachers. The deceased student was in class 10 and allegedly died by suicide by jumping in front of a metro at near Rajendra Place Metro Station.
The child left behind a note blaming his school teachers of harassment and calling for strict action against them. His father has now spoken up about the entire incident, and stressed that the teacher continued to torture his child despite being asked not to do so.
As of now, the headmaster and three other teachers of St Columba’s School have been put under suspension, reports said.
Meanwhile, talking to the media, the child’s father said, “For the past 8-10 months, he’s been complaining that his teacher scolds him for every little thing. The teacher even complained to me about his mischievous behaviour. Despite our insistence, she continued to torture him.”
What the suicide note said
The FIR stated the student allegedly jumped from Platform No. 2 of Rajendra Place Metro Station. The cops recovered the victim’s school bag, which contained the note.
The child, in his suicide note, sought strict action be taken against the teachers. “Meri last wish hai inke uper action le, me nahi chata koi aur bacha meri tarah kuch kare. (My last wish is that action be taken against them, I don’t want other children to suffer the way I did.)” the note read.
“He also asked that his organs be donated after his death. He wrote that his last wish was that such an incident never happen to any child again. An FIR was filed yesterday, and we parents demand that strict action be taken against these teachers and that they be given justice,” his father was quoted as saying.
‘Child was threatened with expulsion’
The father of the deceased child said they told him that they would change his school soon after he clears 10th grade. But right before his board exam prelims, he was threatened with expulsion, he said.
“Yesterday, he slipped and fell, and the teacher scolded him, saying he did it intentionally. He couldn’t bear the humiliation. I received a call at 3:15 pm that he had fallen from the metro station,” the father of the victim added. He said his son had also written the names of the teachers who tortured him.
The parents of the child lived in Maharashtra and rushed to Delhi soon after getting the news. The incident also led to a protest outside the school by students and parents, who alleged that the school administration had ignored repeated complaints of teacher harassment.
Speaking on the matter, Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood said, “I am looking at the issue as a worried parent and not as an Education Minister. We have formed a committee to probe the case; will write to schools to comply with CBSE’s directives on dealing with mental health issues.”
‘He wanted to be an actor’
The 16-year-old student’s uncle said the parents of his nephew had received an anonymous call after which they informed him.
“… We immediately rushed to the metro station and found the people were already taking the kid to the hospital… He wanted to pursue his career as an actor…” he said.

The uncle, Adesh Mule, added that his nephew was a creative and sensitive child, who was tortured and misunderstood. “The children should be recognised for their unique qualities rather than focusing solely on exams and marks… The child had been complaining about his teachers for 4-5 months, whom he named in the suicide note. The parents even talked to the teachers and the principal…” he said.
Mule said the child’s friends informed them that the taunting and harassment increased in the last 4 days before the incident.
“… The school did not take any action and even the FIR was registered in 5 hours. It was when we carried out protests that this matter was taken seriously… There is no clarification on the course of action on the teachers… We will carry on our protests demanding the resolution of the conflicts and grievances of students and parents…” he added.
