A Delhi Police officer was killed after a man started firing indiscriminately on a busy flyover in Northeast Delhi before shooting himself on Tuesday. A third person sustained a bullet injury and is being treated at a hospital.
DCP (Northeast) Joy Tirkey said police received a PCR call at 11.42 am about two people sustaining injuries in a firing incident on Meet Nagar flyover. He said Assistant Sub-Inspector Dinesh Sharma, posted in the Special Branch, was on his motorcycle while the second person, Amit Kumar, 30, was driving his scooter at the time, Indian Express reported.
According to police sources, the ASI was shot point-blank in the chest by the accused, Mukesh, while a stray bullet hit Amit. They were rushed to GTB Hospital where the policeman was declared dead on arrival; Amit sustained bullet injuries to his waist.

Meanwhile, the 44-year-old perpetrator Mukesh Kumar stopped an auto-rickshaw after the shooting rampage and forcibly sat inside it. Mukesh also fired at the auto driver, Mehmood, when he resisted, but the latter made a narrow escape and jumped out. Mukesh then shot himself in the head while sitting inside the auto-rickshaw, PTI reported.
Police recovered a 7.65 mm pistol on the passenger seat of the auto. Multiple live rounds and empty shells were also found at three spots on the flyover.

The reason behind the shooting is being investigated and a case of murder and attempt to murder has been filed.
