Trends in the Delhi Assembly elections indicate a surprising shift in key constituencies. In Okhla, a significant site of anti-NRC protests, AAP’s senior leader and sitting MLA Amanatullah Khan is currently trailing, with BJP candidate Manish Chaudhary taking the lead.

In the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections, Amanatullah Khan secured a decisive victory with 130,367 votes, surpassing BJP’s Brahm Singh, who garnered 58,540 votes, and Congress’s Parvez Hashmi, who managed just 5,123 votes. The 2015 elections also saw Khan winning with 104,271 votes, defeating BJP’s Brahm Singh (39,739 votes) and Congress’s Asif Muhammad Khan (20,135 votes).

This time, Okhla is witnessing a multi-cornered contest with strong candidates from AAP, BJP, Congress and AIMIM. The sitting MLA Amanatullah Khan (AAP) faces stiff competition from Manish Chaudhary (BJP), Ariba Khan (Congress), and Shifa Ur Rehman Khan (AIMIM), making the seat one of the most watched in Delhi’s political landscape.

Meanwhile, in Mustafabad, a Muslim-majority constituency, early trends suggest BJP is making inroads. The seat was won by AAP’s Haji Yunus in 2020, but with BJP gaining momentum in the 2024 general elections, where Harsh Malhotra defeated AAP’s Kuldeep Kumar (Monu) by a margin of 93,663 votes, the assembly race remains open-ended.

Mustafabad Assembly Constituency: 2020 and 2015 Results

2020 Assembly Elections: AAP’s Haji Yunus won with 98,850 votes (53.20%), defeating BJP’s Jagdish Pradhan, who secured 78,146 votes (42.06%).

2015 Assembly Elections: BJP’s Jagdish Pradhan claimed victory with 58,388 votes (35.33%), edging out Congress’ Hasan Ahmed, who received 52,357 votes (31.68%).

As votes continue to be counted, both Okhla and Mustafabad remain crucial in defining the political narrative of Delhi, hinting at a potential shift in voter sentiment.
