Delhi Elections 2025 Highlights: A day before the Delhi Assembly elections, Haryana Police filed an FIR against AAP national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. The case was registered in Kurukshetra following a complaint by Shahbad resident Jagmohan Manchanda.
Kejriwal, along with others, has been charged under Sections 192, 196(1), 197(1), 248(a), and 299 of the BNS Act for alleging that the Haryana government had “poisoned” the waters of the Yamuna.
Campaigning for the Delhi elections ended on Monday, with 699 candidates vying for 70 constituencies. The Delhi elections are viewed as a referendum on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) governance model and a test of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress’s future in the national capital for the next five years. Results on February 8 will decide whether AAP secures a third consecutive term or if the BJP and Congress can stage a strong comeback in Delhi.
The 27-day high-octane campaign for the February 5 Delhi elections saw fierce competition as AAP, BJP, and Congress clashed over a range of issues, including the “Sheesh Mahal vs Rajmahal,” the “poisonous Yamuna,” “Bin Dulhe Ki Barat,” freebies, and personal attacks. Key political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, and Congress’s Rahul Gandhi, led the charge in the battle for power in Delhi.

Delhi Elections 2025 Live Updates: PM Modi takes 'sheesh mahal', 'jacuzzi' digs at Kejriwal on Delhi poll eve
In a veiled dig at Arvind Kejriwal on the eve of Delhi elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the former chief minister focussed on jacuzzis and stylish showers and building a 'sheesh mahal' instead of fulfilling the tall promises made to the people.
Replying to the debate in Lok Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address, he also listed out his government's initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme and housing for poor that were stalled by some governments, an apparent reference to the AAP administration in the national capital.
"Earlier, scams and corruption used to dominate the headlines of newspapers. But, over the last 10 years, we have saved crores of rupees which have been used for the people. We saved a lot of money, but we have not used it to build a 'sheesh mahal' (glass palace). We have used that money for nation building," Modi said.
