Delhi Assembly Elections 2025: The rounds of vote counting will come to an end in the Patparganj constituency and AAP candidate Avadh Ojha has conceded his defeat to BJP’s Ravinder Singh Negi. According to the data of Election Commission of India (ECI), Negi has won by a margin of 25681 votes. The BJP candidate has received 69104 while the AAP candidate got 43423 votes.

Taking responsibility for the outcome, Ojha said, “It’s my personal defeat. I couldn’t connect to people… I’ll meet the people and will contest the next election from here.”

Congress candidate Anil Chaudhary trailed far behind with a distant third position.

Who is Ravinder Singh Negi?

45-year-old Ravinder Singh Negi is currently an MCD councillor from Vinod Nagar, which is part of the Patparganj constituency. He was in the news for controversial videos on social media showing him asking a shop owner to change the name of his dairy to show it was run by a Muslim.

In other videos, he was seen telling Hindu street vendors to put saffron flags on their carts. Negi also visited butcher shops before festivals, asking them to close in respect for Hindu sentiments. These videos appeared in October 2024 and in January 2025.

Why Prime Minister Modi touched Negi’s feet?

Last month, before addressing a rally in the national capital’s Kartar Nagar area ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was seen touching the feet Negi.

The gesture was captured while Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva introduced all party candidates before the PM could start his speech. Each candidate walked up to the stage, one after another greeted the Prime Minister. Most of them bowed to show respect for the Prime Minister. However, soon after Negi tried to touch Modi’s feet, the Prime Minister repeated the gesture and, in fact, touched Negi’s feet three times. Video of this gesture went viral on social media.
