In the World Cup 2023 final held on November 20, 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Australia secured a significant six-wicket triumph over India.
After winning the toss, Australia chose to field and demonstrated their skill by dismissing the entire Indian team within 50 overs, setting a 241-run target.
Australia claimed its sixth World Cup title and lifted the prestigious trophy, leaving Indian supporters disheartened. Their emotions overflowed on social media platforms as they expressed their sorrow following the defeat.
Despite the loss, Team India received enormous appreciation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders.
PM Modi said in a tweet, “Dear Team India, Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You’ve played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation. We stand with you today and always”.
Home Minister Amit Shah also took to social media platform X and wrote, “True sportsmanship involves emerging stronger from both triumphs and setbacks. I firmly believe that you will emerge even stronger”.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi expressed his love and gratitude towards team India. “Win or lose – we love you either way and we will win the next one”, read his tweet.
Mallikarjun Kharge, the President of Congress party, congratulated Team Australia for the win. He also praised the Indian team for their sportsmanship spirit.
“Congratulations Team Australia. India played well and won hearts.
Your talent and sportsman’s spirit was visible in the game”, his tweet on X read.
India secured its place in the final match after defeating New Zealand in a match held at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on November 15, 2023.
