At least eleven people died, and 40 others were left injured after two buses collide head-on near Tirupattur in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, said Sivaganga district SP Siva Prasad.
According to the media reports, both are government buses and one of which was heading towards Karaikudi from Tiruppur. The other bus was going to Dindigul from Karaikudi. However, the buses suffered a head-on collision near Thirupathur, killing at least 11 persons.
Locals rushed to help those injured and police was also informed. The victims were taken to a government hospital in Sivagangai. As of now, the officials suspect that the death count may rise as the condition of some passengers remain critical.
2nd accident in a week
This is the second such accident in a week that has rocked the southern state. Two private buses collided head-on near Idaikal in the Tenkasi district on November 24, killing six people, including five women, and injuring 56 others.
One of the buses was travelling to Senkottai from Madurai, while the other to Kovilpatti from Tenkasi. Police said the accident occurred due to over speeding by one of the bus drives.

In another tragic road mishap, five members of a family traveling to a wedding died on the spot after their tempo collide with a Roadways bus near Zero Point on the Delhi–Lucknow Highway in Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Six others sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the district hospital.
