In the wake of Cyclone Fengal, heavy rainfall continues to batter Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and parts of Andhra Pradesh. Authorities have declared holidays for schools and colleges in affected regions as rescue and relief efforts are underway.

Schools and Colleges Closed

Puducherry’s Education Minister A. Namachivayam announced on Sunday that all government, government-aided, and private schools, as well as colleges, will remain closed on Monday due to adverse weather conditions. Similarly, holidays have been declared in schools and colleges in Villupuram, Cuddalore, Vellore, and Ranipet districts of Tamil Nadu.

Cyclone Fengal made landfall late Saturday night, bringing widespread flooding to districts such as Cuddalore. Residential areas remain submerged, with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams conducting rescue operations using boats to evacuate affected residents.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported on Monday that the depression, a remnant of Cyclone Fengal, has been moving west-northwest at 7 km/h. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.

Local administrations across Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are working with disaster response teams to manage the situation. Relief camps have been set up to provide shelter and food to those affected.

Cyclone Fengal’s impact continues to unfold, with rescue teams bracing for further challenges as heavy rainfall persists in the affected regions.
