Delhi Minister and Aam Aadmi Party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj claimed on Friday that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal would face arrest in the next 2-3 days. Bharadwaj alleged that “BJP people” had warned about the possibility of Kejriwal’s arrest if a multi-state alliance was formed with Congress and that the only way to ensure Kejriwal’s safety is to avoid forming any alliance with Congress.

“We have information that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal will be arrested in the next 2-3 days. The question is, why is the central government showing such haste? …People have been telling us that if AAP forms a multi-state alliance with Congress, then Arvind Kejriwal will be arrested. Even the BJP people are telling us that if an alliance (with Congress) is forged, Arvind Kejriwal will be jailed, and if we want to see him outside, there is just one way – that Arvind Kejriwal doesn’t become a part of INDIA Alliance with Congress,” he said.

Bharadwaj also took a swipe at the BJP, suggesting that the saffron party is nervous about their alliance disrupting their chances of forming a government.

“It is clear that the BJP is very nervous. It thinks that if AAP and Congress come together, wherever an alliance is formed, in whichever state – it will be difficult for BJP, difficult for it to form a government,” he said.

While speaking on the arrangement for seat-sharing with the Congress, Bharadwaj stated, “All announcements (for all states) will be made together. The discussions are in the final stage, and I am confident that the announcement will be made soon.” On Thursday, Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Arvinder Singh Lovely announced an alliance between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Congress in the national capital for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

He further said that the Congress and AAP are united in the INDIA bloc. The alliance extends beyond Delhi, and we will jointly contest the Lok Sabha polls nationwide, he said while giving assurance of a seat-sharing agreement to be out soon.

The breakthrough in seat-sharing followed extensive discussions this week, including a crucial meeting at the residence of Congress heavyweight KC Venugopal on Thursday. Venugopal and Mukul Wasnik represented the Congress, while the AAP was represented by Sandeep Pathak, Saurabh Bhardwaj, and Atishi.

In the 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the BJP secured all seven seats in Delhi. In 2004, the Congress won 6 seats, and the BJP won one. The 2009 elections saw the Congress winning all 7 seats in the national capital.

The AAP dominated the 2015 Assembly elections in Delhi, securing 67 out of 70 seats. Replicating its 2020 success, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party won 62 out of 70 seats in the Assembly elections.
