The bodies of a boy and a girl were found hanging from a tree in a village in Chhattisgarh’s Balrampur district, police said on Monday, according to PTI. The police identified the pair as teenagers involved in a relationship.

The boy was aged 17, while the girl was 15 years old, a 10th-grade student. According to prima facie evidence, the duo committed suicide by hanging themselves.

The grim discovery was made Sunday evening by a shepherd who spotted them hanging from a tree on the outskirts of Dhandhapur village in the Rajpur area. Upon seeing this, villagers immediately alerted the police.

As per preliminary information, the boy, originally from Baghima village in the district, was temporarily residing at his relative’s residence in Dhandhapur. He was romantically involved with girl, who belonged to his hometown, the official said.

The situation appears to be a suicide case, with the precise motive still under investigation, the official added. No suicide note has been discovered thus far.

The bodies have been sent for postmortem examination, and authorities are conducting an inquiry into the matter.
