At least six people were killed and seven others injured in a collision between a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a truck in Chhattisgarh’s Balod district, police said on Monday.

The accident took place late Sunday night under the Daundi police station area.

The victims, all residents of Gunderdehi, were returning from a family function when the SUV collided head-on with the truck. Of the 13 people in the vehicle, six died on the spot, while seven others suffered serious injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Durpat Prajapati (30), four women—Sumitra Bai Kumbhkar (50), Manisha Kumbhkar (35), Sagun Bai Kumbhkar (50), and Imla Bai (55)—and a minor boy, Jignesh Kumbhkar (7).

The injured, including five women and a child, were initially taken to a local community health centre and later referred to Rajnandgaon district hospital for further treatment.

An accidental death report has been filed, and investigations are ongoing, police said.
