A bomb scare at the Taj Mahal turned out to be a hoax after an email threatening to blow up the monument was received by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism office on Tuesday, reports PTI.

The police quickly deployed a bomb disposal squad, a dog squad, and other teams to investigate the threat. However, nothing suspicious was found, said Assistant Commissioner of Police Sayed Areeb Ahmad, who oversees security at the Taj Mahal.

“The email was received by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism office, and after a thorough search, we found no evidence to support the threat,” Ahmad said. “The matter is being investigated, and the sender of the email is being traced.

Deepti Vatsa, deputy director of Uttar Pradesh Tourism, said the email was promptly forwarded to Agra police and the Archaeological Survey of India for further action

Officials said the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), bomb disposal team, and dog squad conducted searches across the Taj Mahal premises, including the gardens, main platform, and dustbins.

A similar bomb hoax was reported in March 2021, when CISF and Taj Suraksha Police personnel checked the premises and found no threats.
